I have also had the privilege to be a part of my school’s concert and jazz band, playing the alto sax and piano respectively. Unlike all asian stereotypes however, I do pursue other forms of art, other than music (surprising, I know) such as debate, which I have been passionate about since the sixth grade. I have competed in numerous competitions, from local debating unions, to regional rosters. Speech in its uttermost form of great art has always intrigued me, and thus I am proud to be the Director of Marketing for Calgary’s chapter of United Under Arts.

President

Hi! I’m Nandini Goel, a 17-year-old senior this fall at Redmond High School in the state of Washington. Even despite having to regularly do things I’m not very fond of, I never fail to give myself the time to be with myself, creating art in multiple forms. Sometimes, I paint a little, though it isn’t my strong suit. I also write lots of essays on my own time. Most of the time, however, I spend creating music. I’ve always loved to sing and write music as not only a cathartic outlet for myself but with the hope to change another individual’s life in a good way with my songs. Coming to this realization and now finding the opportunity to not only serve my community with the Arts but also bring so much more grateful attention to the Arts, I am beyond excited to further the Redmond chapter, welcoming all types of artists to put out their message for anyone desperately in need of support!

President

Hello! I am Victoria Egan and I am a junior in high school. I am passionate about visual art and plan to attend art school in the future. I love everything art related, and would love to help people through art. I believe art can help improve my community, and I want to see that happen. I run the Suffolk chapter to help make Suffolk a better place through the arts.

Saumya Seyon

President

Hi! I'm Saumya Seyon; I'm seventeen, and a Grade 11 student at Markville Secondary School. I trained in bharatanatyam and carnatic vocals. I’ve played piano since I was six, and am learning guitar and ukulele. I've dabbled in several forms of visual art (oil/watercolour painting, inking, sketching, sculpting). I'm part of both my school's drama club and theatre program. The arts are my emotional outlet (singing especially), and through them I’ve met some incredible people (shoutout to my theatre family). I’m so honoured and excited to be President of UUA’s Toronto Chapter! I hope to use this opportunity to celebrate the lives of youth artists and help underfunded arts programs in public elementary schools.

Hello, my name is Jun! Just like you guys, I am a social gamer, coffee drinker and sushi addicted. :) Dipping myself in both musician and artist, I have witnessed many cases where art was used to create togetherness and an inclusive community. And that is the exact reason why I am very passionate about what we do in UUA; breaking down the barriers of people using the universal language. I am very excited to join UUA Waterloo as the Events director and I can’t wait to meet you all at our events!

Christiane Betfarhad

President

Hi everyone! I’m Christiane Betfarhad, a junior at Staples High School in Westport, Connecticut! I’ve been singing since I was 8 years old and will continue to sing in college. I’ve sung tenor, alto, and soprano but prefer singing soprano 2 - oddly specific, I know. I also play the piano and trumpet, but singing is my main instrument. Music has played a big role in my life and I want to be able to share the joy music has given me with others so that they can experience the magic of music just as I have. I’m really excited to be a part of UUA and open up a chapter in Westport!
